Side Entry Mixer Applications

Crude oil sludge and water control

The main purpose of the side entry mixer in this application is to ensure that the developed jet stream is used to lift the BS & W into the body of the crude to maintain a relatively clean tank bottom.

The swivel angle mixers used can be modified so that the flow on both sides of the tank axis is up to 30 degrees.

so that all areas of the tank are swept. It is especially important that no sludge deposits or plugs form around the outlet of the tank so that the mixing block is located directly in front of the tank outlet.

It is assumed that these tasks involve "clean" products and that fixed angle mixers are used. As with swivel angle mixers, they should all be at about 22.5 degrees and in a 90 degree quadrant. If it is possible to operate the mixers during pumping, up to 50% of process or time performance can be saved. To optimize the additive mixing effect of the inlet stream and the focused axial flow on the mixer, it is recommended that the mixing group be located approximately 22.5 degrees to the left of the tank inlet. If it is not possible to use the inflation time, the position of the mixer group is not critical.
